I’ve Seen You Cut Lemons
This is not a downloading site. This is not a site where you can find stuff you should be buying. Nonetheless there are some (rare) occasions when you should know about something, and be able to access it.
You probably don’t know about the (possibly unreleased) single by The Lemon Men called I’ve Seen You Cut Lemons. Why would you?
It never troubled the charts. Nonetheless it is brilliant in the brilliant but bonkers category that is horribly overused.
You can read about it, and listen to it at Left and to the Back. Please do.
23 Daves describes it as
truly unorthodox, combining a brooding moodiness with peculiar Jimmy Webb styled lyrical lines and a relaxing lounge music backing – to use that lazy journalistic device of cross-referencing styles, it’s rather like the theme tune to “Just Good Friends” colliding with the plot of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. We will probably never hear its like again, and as for who the Lemon Men were… does anyone have any ideas? My guess would be that they were a studio band put together solely for this project, but I’d be happy to be corrected.
He or she is to be thanked for making this available, and those seeking quick thrills should lay back and listen to the song all the way through. Like a good horror movie the song reveals itself slowly.
If, for some reason, it is not possible to hear and download it from Left and to the Back, then you can grab it here.
