Tuesday, October 8
Last week I did not cycle at all. The continuous drizzle, interspersed with rainstorms, put me off. Yesterday I started again: wearing the jacket, scarf and gloves the darkening autumn mornings require.
Today I get off my bike and notice how the numbers have dropped off. A month ago the parking spaces had almost filled up by the time I got here. Today I cluster my bike next to a couple of the few remaining others for company.
I will spend the day recording podcasts, teaching students, writing reports, and looking out of the window at the gathering clouds, hoping that cycling will not prove the wrong choice to have made.
