We have an appointment with the vet at 11:15.

Sunshine went out as usual for a pre-breakfast walk, but today the walk lasted four or five metres. He came in and just lay down where he had dropped.

Later he will eat, and then lie on a bed. I will sit with him talking and stroking him and then I will take some photographs. For the first time ever he just lies there and lets me do it.

His left eye socket has sunk and his left cheek swollen, with the result that his left eye weeps most of the time.

We will take him to Herttoniemi and the vet will put him to sleep. He will watch with little apparent interest and then lie down to die.

We will both miss him a lot.
