Puotila Beach, 8:42

I decided that I really should continue my early morning walks and so I headed towards the sea to see how the ducks have fared. The answer mildly surprised me.

The sea has frozen over except for one small channel which has warm water flowing into it from a pipe. Where does it come from? What does it contain? I don’t know, but I shall try to find out.

I find all the ducks crammed into this one small piece of unfrozen sea. I stop to photograph them and they take no notice until a couple get out of the water and head towards me to check if I have any food for them.

Later, as I walk along, I will see a couple more ducks skating on the (still thin) ice; heading in a slightly unsteady way in the direction of the remaining channel where the others splash around.
