The sky darkens again. The heatwave seems to have packed up and gone home. Then it brightens again. Then it darkens again.
The hyperlocal nature of rain here never fails to interest me. As we drive to Helsinki we pass through areas that seem bone dry and then, a kilometre or two later, we drive through puddles before watching the road turn completely dry again.
Once, as a child, I watched rain out of the front windows of our house, while the view from the back windows remained perfectly dry. Many people refuse to believe this, and I had begun to lose faith in my own memory.
The extremely localised rain around the archipelago restores my faith.
