The Commies were coming!
Mojo arrives a month late in Finland, which means that the edition labelled August actually arrives at the beginning of August. That is why I have only just found our about a certain Cold War music paranoia web site.
Apparently Bear Family Records have released a box set entitled Atomic Platters: Cold War Music from the Golden Age of Homeland Security which includes The Swan Silvertones’ version of Jesus is God’s Atomic Bomb, and countless other classics.
There is also a web site with lots of downloads and scholarly articles on the effects of Cold War paranoia on popular music. The site is atomicplatters.com and it is part of a larger project, conelrad.com, that traces the effects of the Cold War on all popular culture from The Addams Family to Mr Ed.
That’s my kind of research.
